Hello Suffering?

“In a game of chess you can make certain arbitrary concessions to your opponent, which stand to the ordinary rules of the game as miracles stand to the laws of nature. You can deprive yourself of a castle, or allow the other man sometimes to take back a move made inadvertently. But if you conceded everything that at any moment happened to suit him–if all his moves were revocable and if all your pieces disappeared whenever their position on the board was not to his liking–then you could not have a game at all.

So it is with the life of souls in a world: fixed laws, consequences unfolding by casual necessity, the whole natural order, are at once the limits within which their common life is confined and also the sole condition under which any such life is possible.

Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.” from The Problem Of Pain by C.S. Lewis

Perhaps it is not so much the suffering but the extent of the pain, the reason behind it, and the person causing it.

How much is enough God?

Servants killed. Sons and daughters killed. Animals, some taken and others killed. Rich, now poor. Hit rock bottom. Wife told you to do the unthinkable. And what did Job say?

“Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”ย  Job 1 vs 21

And I wonder, Would I be able to say that if those things happened to me? How much suffering is too much before a person falls to pieces?

Does suffering bring us closer to others or does it draw us away from them?

Does suffering bring us closer to God or does it take us away from him?

Pull It Out

They must have been walking for awhile, beads of sweat on both their faces as they stopped just beyond view of the people in the building. With their work tools in their hands, they spied and waited; perhaps out of shame or out of trying to convinced themselves that they were doing the right thing.

The building – A social welfare center. They – Two young men.

I saw them recently and I thought, Where does one get the “second wind” when he/she is down? Where does the strength come from to move on when you just do not want to? It lies somewhere; a place where not giving up, seeing a glimpse of light and hope need to be pull out. It is you that will make it, not some cheap, wordy politician, some babbling, false preacher, some hypocrite that is going to do it for you. The question is, “Are you willing?”

Okay, switch

Is there a difference between long suffering and suffering long?

One of the fruits of the Spirit is, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, LONG SUFFERING, . . .” Galatians 5 vs 22

Do you apply patience, stoicism, perseverance among other things while dealing with problems, or, do you grumble, complain, frustrate the problems even more?

Not suggesting that either way will make what we are going through go away faster, just suggesting that how we deal with it might make it “easier”.

How we deal with the pain, the anguish, the hurt in life will dictate which one we apply to ourselves.

for the month of february, PLEASE GIVE A DIME. Or ten cents, or an equivalent. For each day, set this amount aside for the whole month, 28 days, and at the end of the month, donate it to a childrenโ€™s charity. A small big difference. Pass the word along if you please. :)
